Hello,
Does anyone know how to reinstall MSDTC on Windows 2003?
I have a 2 node SQL 2000 cluster (active/passive) which is having problems
failing over to the other node. Failing over the MSDTC Group to the other
node causes MSDTC to fail with Application EVENT ID 4156 ("RPC raised an
exception with a return code RPC_S_INVALIDA_ARG"). The System Log generates
EVENT ID 1069 ("Cluster resource 'MSDTC Resource' in Resource Group 'MSDTC
Group' failed").
I've been able to find an article explaining how to reinstall MSDTC on
Windows 2000, but not on Windows 2003. Any assistance on this would be much
appreciated. ThanksHi
Searching Google for "RPC raised an exception with a return code
RPC_S_INVALIDA_ARG" turned up a few threads, of which this one may be of
interest http://tinyurl.com/cnoqm

DNS seems fine as i can connect to and from the server across the network.
No other errors are generated apart from the MSDTC and Cluster errors. SQL
fails over successful, just not the MSDTC group

There is a note on there at the bottom, which says if you're using Windows
2003 to refer to the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301600/. That
only goes through setting up MSDTC on 2003 initially.
I'm not sure if the method for rebuilding MSDTC in that article applies to
Windows 2003 due to the note at the bottom, referring us to KB301600.

From that it looks like you can add/remove it using the Add/Remove Windows
components in Control Panel?

method will retain the current settings or will they have to be recreated
again.

I have not done this on a Windows 2003 machine, but I would expect the
settings to be lost otherwise it would not be a full un-install.
