Registration Problem

I tried to Register the SQL Express. I received the Email to comfirmation and verification but I don't received Any Key!

Can some one help me?

Thanks

Actually you don′t need to register within SQL Server Express, this will bring you only additional benefits like information about updates and other news about SQL Server (and as far as I can remeber some benefits), but since SQL Server Express is free you don′t even need to register nor need a license code.

HTH, Jens K. Suessmeyer.

Jens is correct, no key is needed. We do like people to register though; the registration process offers some benefits as well as the option to get updates about patches, etc. Registration also allows us to better understand how people are using SQL Express (there are a few questions), which helps me do a better job designing the next version of SQL Express.

Is there a evaluation copy for SQL2005/ Reporting Server 2005? How Can we verify if we have installed a trial version? And how can this be permanetly activated?

Yes there is a trial version: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=6931fa7f-c094-49a2-a050-2d07993566ec

Refer to the following snippet from the MS site:

Upgrading and Uninstalling the Trial Software

The 180-day trial version of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition can be upgraded to the fully licensed version of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition without uninstalling the trial software prior to the end of the 180-day period. If upgrading to the fully licensed version of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, Workgroup Edition, or Developer Edition, it is recommended that you uninstall the 180-day trial version of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition before installing the fully licensed version of the other editions. Please refer to the product documentation for information about upgrading to the fully licensed software.

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/trial-system-requirements.mspx

If you want to upgrade the product you should do that before the trial period has ended to avoid problems like this:

It's also worth noting that SQL Express with Advanced Services includes Reporting Services free of charge. There are some limitation as is common with free products, but it might meet you needs. Check out the feature comparison by Edition.

Registration of SQL with WEB Server

i need to know how can i register my SQL server with WEb based SQL server

i have the address MSSQL2.MINUTESUAE.COM now how can i register my SQL Server with them.

when i m going to conect with this server it register but after that Database not show it take to much time.

Hi,

If you are trying to connect a shared database supplied by a hosting firm, to see your database in your Enterprise Manager will take really so long time.

I can advise you to connect your database by using Query Analyzer not Enterprise Manager.

You will connect your database directly if you use Query Analyzer.

Registration of SQL Servers missing in Enterprise manager

Hi All,
Recently a strange behaviour was seen with Enterprise manager. When we

n
before? Its really painful to register 20 servers each time when login
password is changed. Some of the registered servers are windows

Thanks a lot in advance!
Vinod MeesalaHi,
Never aware of this issues. What is the SQL Server service pack you are usin
g?
If you are using old service packs, install SP4 for SQL 2000 (if you are
using SQL Server 2000) and see if you still have issues.
Thanks

Registration of SQL Server

Helo All,
We have two W2K servers. One is an SQL Server(S1) and another one is a
server (S2) on which SSL Certificate is installed.
When I try to register SQL Server from S2 through enterprises manager,
following error occured:
Encryption not supported on SQL Server| ConnectionOpen(PreLoginHandshake...
In this scenario is it mandatory to have SSL installed on the SQL Server
Machine (S1) also?
Any comment on this would be highly helpful.
Thanks in anticipation!

This error indicates either sql server server thinks the certificate is
invalid
or can't locate the certificate. To check if Sql Server can use a
certificate, enable
force protocol encryption on the server side and restart the service. If
Sql Server starts then certificate is okay.
The error can also occur if you have installed the certificate on sql
server but
have not restarted sql. so even if you are using client side encryption,
you need to restart sql server once the certificate is installed.
Hope this helps,

Registration of mobile data provider for SQLCE

Hi All,
I have just installed SQL Server Compact Edition (including the SDK) for use with Borland Developer Studio 2006. I have an ADOConnection component on my form, but the Provider I want (Microsoft.SQLSERVER.MOBILE.OLEDB.3.0) is not available. Typing in the connection string: "Provider=Microsoft.SQLSERVER.MOBILE.OLEDB.3.0;Data Source=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.1\SDK\Samples\Northwind.sdf..." results in an "Unspecified Error". I have checked the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID and the provider associated with SQLCE is not there.
I've read a couple of posts indicating that it should have been registered during install. Is this the case or do I have to do something more to register this provider?
I've checked the assembly (system.data.sqlserverCe - it seems OK) and re-registered sqlceolebd30.dll. I'm not sure what else needs to be done.
TIA,
Luke
Have you downloaded and installed this? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en|||Thanks for you reply Erik.
I have downloaded that msi, along with the SSCE31SDK-ENU.msi.
On the link that you specified the Additional Information states in part that " Installing SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition by running SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll)."
For some reason that hasn't happened. I'll look into some other way of registering the provider.
Thanks again.
|||

You can test if it is an OLEDB provider problem by running this VBA code in Excel/word or similar:

Code Snippet

Sub test()

Dim conn As New ADODB.Connection
conn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.SQLSERVER.MOBILE.OLEDB.3.0;Data Source=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.1\SDK\Samples\Northwind.sdf"
conn.Open

End Sub

(remember to add a reference to "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.8 Library")

If this works, it is a 3rd party problem...

|||Thanks Erik. I tried that in Excel and it worked so I figured it must be Delphi related, and it was.
For some reason I am not able to hook up the ADO components at design time - it raises an error. If I set the connection string at run time it works. I tried this yesterday with no luck, but this morning I uninstalled/reinstalled SQL Server Compact (with SDK and server tools) and the run time test worked, so I may well have done something with my original install that was causing me problems.

Registration of CLR-function sample fails

HI

I'm trying to reproduce the VB CLR sample concat function from the SQL documentation (ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/MS.SQLSVR.v9.en/denet9/html/5a188b50-7170-4069-acad-5de5c915f65d.htm)

I've installed Visual Studio 2005 and compiled the DLL which seems to work fine, but when I try to register the DLL with this call:

create assembly sqlfuncdll from 'D:\SQLdata\dll\SQLfunctions.dll'

I got this error:

Msg 10301, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Assembly 'SQLfunctions' references assembly 'system.windows.forms, version=2.0.0.0, culture=neutral, publickeytoken=b77a5c561934e089.', which is not present in the current database. SQL Server attempted to locate and automatically load the referenced assembly from the same location where referring assembly came from, but that operation has failed (reason: 2(The system cannot find the file specified.)). Please load the referenced assembly into the current database and retry your request.

When I remove the system.windows.form reference from the VB project (my suggestion is : I don't need the forms) then the project won't builld, so somehow it needs it.

What sould I do to get this DLL working?

hans

What type of Visual Studio project are you using? If you make a class library rather than a Windows Forms application then just the code in the documentation alone should compile fine without the reference.

--Bonnie

|||

The application type of the project is indeed "Class Library".

When I remove the System.Windows.Forms reference from the project, then the compilation of the DLL fails, I don't get any error message why, it just don't work. When I put the reference back, then the compilation is succesfull. I can't get why it needs this reference.

Some how I should get this project working without the System.Windows.Forms reference, because in the SQL documentation I found that this library is not supported and not linked by default :

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403279.aspx

I started the VB project from scratch and now it does not need the System.Windows.Forms reference Smile I don't understand why, but some how this reference was needed.

|||Most people make the mistake that they want to use MessageBox.Show in their Assemblies, which is sure not supported by the SQL CLR. If you are not sure which command is preventing you from registering the assembly, send the code over and we / I will have a look on it.

Registration from Enterprise Manager

Here is my problem:
I have a sqlserver SQLA which I have registered in EM with a sqlserver
authentication with a uid and password and that connection works fine. The
problem is that when I look at the security log of SQLA, i see continuous
failure audits but with a uid that I am logging in to my local machine with.
My question is that when I am choosing to use sqlserver authentication and
not windows authentication to connect to SQLA, how come it is in turn still
sending windows authentication requests at the same time.
Few thing that have led me to this is:
1.When I delete the sqlserver registration from EM, those failure audits
stop, so that nakes me sure that these are coming from EM only.
2. When I map a drive to SQLA with windows credentials, these failure audits
stop, which indicates that it is succeeding in windows authentication ,
thats why the audits stop.
Please let me know your thoughts?
What you are seeing is probably related to the polling that Enterprise
Manager does - it polls the SQL and related services on the servers
that you have registered. You can turn this off in Enterprise Manager
by going up to the menu to Tools and selecting Options. On the general
tab, you can remove the check for Server State Polling.

Registration form problem. String or binary data would be truncated

I have created a registration form. It works fine IF ALL fields are filled. However, all fields are not required. When I test the registration page and leave a field blank, I receive the following message:

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated.

Stack Trace:

[SqlException: String or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated.]

Even if I leave a validated field blank, I receive the same message instead of the required field validation control error message.

Here is the code for the registration page. I use web matrix to create the code as directed in the tutorial.

Can anyone help a newbie?

Registration failure in Enterprise Manager

I am in Enterprise Manager on ComputerA, logged in as user xyz. I am
attempting to add a new SQL Server registration for the SQL Server on
ComputerB, using SQL Server authentication based on SQL Server login abc. Th
e
registration fails, stating that the SQL Server does not exist or access is
denied. The Security Event Log on ComputerB indicates a login failure to the
account xyz, which does not exist on ComputerB. Why is the registration
attempt trying to log into a non-existent Windows account when I have
requested SQL Server authentication? TIA...Sounds like it could be that it's trying to connect using
named pipes. Check the order of the protocols using the
client network utility and try setting TCP/IP as the first
protocol if it already isn't the first one listed.
Or use the client network utility and create a TCP/IP alias
to ComputerB on ComputerA

creating the TCP/IP alias for ComputerB, but I tried it again. All to no

ComputerB is a W2K3 system, and it appears that account synchronization is
required on W2K3 even when you're using SQL Server authentication. So I
wonder why you'd ever bother with SQL Server authentication on W2K3?

Registration Fails

For years I've had a server registration using sql server auth set up...now it's failing...can't be found not suthed BS...

I can still see mu other boxes in sql mode, and otyhers in mixed, and I can still see my remote boxes in Ireland and Pennysylvania...we're in NJ..

The person next to me does the same thing, had to reboot, but was fine.

I get ice in the winter...

Any ideas?

Never seen anything like it...

I do know that our tech group has been doing some pushes lately...but I checked my settings and they seem fine..but why would I be able to see everything else but this one instance?...are you registering by IP or DNS name? fact is I already tried that...

BUT it is a great point...for some reason the error message are more helpful..it's like QA interferes with the message...

Registration error

Hi,
I am able to register other SQL server instances but when
I try to register one in particular I am getting this
error on the main server to which I need to register all
of the satelite servers. Can anyone help with this
problem? I don't understand why it is using a null
account instead of the guest account to try to log into
this particular instance.
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated
with a Trusted SQl Server connectionthat server is setup for Windows Authentication and you are logging in using
SQL login?

Registration edit for replication ?

I have a laptop on a LAN and I have pushed a new subscription to it. Now I
want to move the Laptop to its proper location (in another city for example)
and replicate to it via the internet.
Can I simply edit the server registration at the Publisher?
thank you,
bob
Bob,
assuming you don't intend to reinitialize, AFAIK there is no new
configuration necessarily required on the publisher. However, on the
subscriber there are various stipulations:
It'll need to be set up as a pull subscriber.
On the laptop you'll need to set up an alias in the client network utility
and place an entry in the hosts file to recognise the publisher.
For security, the pull agent will need to be set up to use SQL
authentication or passthrough windows authentication.
If you want to subsequently reinitialize, then changes will be necessary on
the publisher. You'll need to set @.enabled_for_internet = true so that FTP
can be used to download the snapshot.
HTH,
Paul Ibison
|||no. The subscriber in this case is probably set up for an push. Exactly how
is the publisher going to find the subscriber over the internet.
To get this to work you would have to update the lmhosts and/or the hosts
file for the new ip address, Client Network Utiltity for the new ip address.

Registration card returned by post office.

I recently purchased SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition
here in Canada. I mailed the registration card to the
P.O. Box in San Francisco as indicated on the
accompanying documentation.
The post office has returned the card with a stamp that
says "Box Closed: Forwarding Order Expired".
As I did not get asked to register on-line when I
installed the product, how do I register that I have
acquired this product ?Chris,
The best is to call the local MS subsidiary. Check the numbers at
www.microsoft.com/canada.

registration and Replicatons

Is registration of the subscriber required to configure replications.
I am configuring replications over the internet using a VPN connection
and do not want the Publisher/Distributor (Publisher and Distributor
are the same) to have the Subscriber registered. I know you can add a
subscriber using the system stored procedure but I was wondering if
registration of the subscriber was a requirement to perform
replication.
Thank you in advance for your help.
It is required.
You must register the servers in your hosts file, client configuration utility, and EM. Then you must enable your subscriber using SQL Server authentication.

Registration access denied

Am I able to register SQL2005 server in Enterprise Manager of SQL2000, or SQL2000 server in SQL Server Management Studio?

You can use enterprise manager from sql 2005 to administer both sql 2000 and sql 2005 databases.

I doubt that the enterprise manager from sql 2000 would work with a sql 2005 database.

|||How should I use enterprise manager in SQL2005?|||

Its Management Studio.

From Management Studio, you can connect to both sql 2000 and sql 2005 databases.

Hi

Below is from previous link:

As for connecting to Express from application code, this should not be any different from connecting to a named instance of SQL Server 2000. Your connection string should look like this, assuming local machine and an instance name of SQLEXPRESS (you might need a different instance name, and you may have to use a machine name, rather than "." (which means local)).
