Reinstalling SQL Server on a Cluster

OK... Here's the deal. We had a 2 server cluster set up with SQL Server.
This consultant we were working with uninstalled the cluster and then
uninstalled SQL Server. Now we set the cluster back up, but we're having
trouble re-installing SQL Server. Can someone point me to directions on
re-installing SQL Server on a cluster?
Thanks

cluster, and then had to go into the Registry and remove the remnants of the
SQL Server installation (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQL and \Microsoft SQL
Server keys), then reinstall on the cluster. For some reason when I
uninstalled the first time, it kept a reference to the prior virtual SQL
Server installation, and wouldn't let me overwrite it.
Thanks for the help!

Reinstalling MSDTC on Windows 2003

Hello,
Does anyone know how to reinstall MSDTC on Windows 2003?
I have a 2 node SQL 2000 cluster (active/passive) which is having problems
failing over to the other node. Failing over the MSDTC Group to the other
node causes MSDTC to fail with Application EVENT ID 4156 ("RPC raised an
exception with a return code RPC_S_INVALIDA_ARG"). The System Log generates
EVENT ID 1069 ("Cluster resource 'MSDTC Resource' in Resource Group 'MSDTC
Group' failed").
I've been able to find an article explaining how to reinstall MSDTC on
Windows 2000, but not on Windows 2003. Any assistance on this would be much
appreciated. Thanks
Hi
Searching Google for "RPC raised an exception with a return code
RPC_S_INVALIDA_ARG" turned up a few threads, of which this one may be of
interest http://tinyurl.com/cnoqm

DNS seems fine as i can connect to and from the server across the network.
No other errors are generated apart from the MSDTC and Cluster errors. SQL
fails over successful, just not the MSDTC group

There is a note on there at the bottom, which says if you're using Windows
2003 to refer to the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301600/. That
only goes through setting up MSDTC on 2003 initially.
I'm not sure if the method for rebuilding MSDTC in that article applies to
Windows 2003 due to the note at the bottom, referring us to KB301600.

method will retain the current settings or will they have to be recreated
again.

I have not done this on a Windows 2003 machine, but I would expect the
settings to be lost otherwise it would not be a full un-install.

Reinstall 2nd Node - SQLServer

Cluster active-active. The installation in one server was lost and the S.O.
was reinstalled. Now in one node there are two instances. How can I reinstall
de second node and move the instance to it ?
Look up Maintaining a Failover Cluster in SQL Books-Online. It has step by
step instructions on how to replace a failed cluster node.

Failure"
In one of the steps is necessary Remove the node from a virtual server (SQL
Server). My doubt is if in this moment the instance will be unavailable.
The last step is install SQL Server. Is it possible rebuild node to the
virtual server before install SQL Server ?

|||Again, Books-On-line has specific step-by step instructions on how to
restore a node under these exact circumstances. If you do the installation
according to the instructions, the instance will not need to go offline. If
you do not follow the instructions, you may damage your installation.

I tried to follow the instructions and the setup asked me to Uninstall the
Instance. What does it mean ? The instance will be removed physically ? My
doubt is in this moment. I'm not sure what SQL Setup will do. If the 2
instances will keep available or not. I'm in production environment and the
instances can't be unavailable.

|||The SQL installer needs to modify the remaining bits on Node 1 to remove all
references to Node 2. In essence, it is erasing all traces of Node 2 from
the SQL instance. It will not completely remove your SQL instance. If this
is done correctly, the SQL instance currently running on Node 1 will not be
affected.

Registry For Cluster

What is the registry path for checking if there is a SQLServer installed as a
virtual server on the machine. What I am trying to get here is if I logged on
to a machine and I want to read from registry if there is any SQL Virtual
server installed on this machine or not. I need to know all the names of SQL
that could be a default instance on virtual server or a named instance.
It is a windows 2003 in sql 2000 environment.
Any help will be appreciated.

What a terrible newsgroup it is. Not even people from MS respond to the
request hanging for over 2 days

|||Personally, I would not interrogate the registry to find whether there is any
clustered SQL instance. rather, I'd just use Cluster Automation Server (CAS)
via a script. See this article
http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;en-us;244597
for an example on how to script with CAS.

Registering a SQL Cluster through and IPSec tunnel

I am trying to register a sql cluster (SQLVS01) on a server that is on
the other end of an IPSec tunnel. The goal is secure transaction
replication of seperate publications in both directions. I am not
having any trouble registering the remote sql server (SQL03) at the
cluster location but when I try to register the virtual sql server
(SQLVS01) at the remote location, Enterprise Manager hangs.
I put a packet sniffer on both ends, and it appears that when I try to
register the virtual server, it sends the request from the virtual IP,
but responds with the actual IP that is currently running, but I am
relatively inexperienced in sniffing packets.
The IPSec tunnel is between a PIX 515 and a PIX 506 and appears to be
solid.
Ideas?

You might want to post this to the custering group
(microsoft.public.sqlserver.clustering).
I don't even know how to spell custering.
