Release A Install Problems
install, but when MSDE goes to start it says, MSDE is either currport or has
been tampered with, please uninstall and reinstall MSDE, invalid package ID.
We go to unstill MSDE and it says MSDE is not installed... We tried
reinstalling, since it thought it wasn't installed and when the installer
starts, we get the same invaled package id error... Does anyone have any
ideas, or thoughts on what is happening or what I can do to fix this? Thanks,
Brian
Did you define a strong password for SA using the SAPWD parameter? MSDE SP3A
setup.exe will not install a new instance without it.

Relational DB/Analysis Services Configuration for multi-proc environment
Hello--
Is it possible to install/configure SQL-Server 2005 on a multi-processor machine so that the relational DB utilizes a given subset of processors while Analysis Services utilizes another subset?
Thanks,
- Paul
No, in the current version it is not possible to limit Analysis Services to a subset of the CPUs|||Although you could use OS services to do such a thing, we haven't tried it ourselves, though (you could let everyone know how it works out!Friday, March 23, 2012
Re-installing SQL SERVER
tape backup to the new server.
Are there any special things I have to do...I have never done this before,
so I am unsure of the steps...
Basically, I will be doing this
Setup new PC
Install SQLSERVER
Make sure no server procedures are running on system startup
Restore databases from tape backup to new SQL SERVER build
Is there anything else I need to do? Delete MASTER.MDB?
Thx
read these two articles

it makes things a little simpler if you keep the exact same drive letter
and directory structure on your new server as on the old server.

Reinstalling of Sample database( AdventureWorks - OLTP) in SQL 2005
I was successfully installing sample database AdventureWork on my server the
first time, But realized that I didn't install with all the features with it
.
I delete the DB and try to reinstall it with all the features. it goes
through all the steps but DB don't install or attach. There isn't any error
messages.
I'm trying to install it so that I can use or test the Partition script that
come with it (PartitionAW.sql). Since I'm trying to partition my database.
How do I fix this problem or resolve it?
Thanks for your help.

can't find PartitionAW.sql. The version of Sql2005 that I have is a
developer's version. I'm wandering if it doesn't come with the partitioning
script.
Does anyone knows how I can get this script to run or test it in Sql2005.
Thanks.

Reinstall Reporting Services
I tried to do it through the SQL Server 2005 install and at somepoint
it told me the only way to modify/reinstall an existing installation
for this component was to do it through Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs. I tried that, it ran through it's setup, but didn't really
reinstall anything or give me any installation config options. I've
messed up my reporting services pretty good and would like to
completely uninstall then reinstall if possible.
Thanks,
MattMark
Before uninstalling RS you should remove 2 RS components manually. Follow this
Launch Component Service MMC snap-in from Administrative Tools.
Navigate down to Components Services | Computers | <My Computer>| COM+
Applications, you fill find at least a pair of IIS application for RS &
Reports. You have to remove them, in order to do so you will ned to select
each applications properties dialog and Uncheck Diable deletion on the
Protection tab. This will delete them.
Thanks

re-install MSDE
I've been trying to install the IBUYSPY samples and have been running into server problems. I've done everything from uninstalling and reinstalling MSDE to manually erasing the data files via window explorer. I've got everything so screwed up now, that e
ven though MSDE is installed, I can't access it through Server Explorer in VS DotNet. I have 2 questions
1) How can I do a clean install of MSDE (erase everything, then reinstall everything)?
2) What significance do the aspnet_wp and SQLDebugger accounts have? Should these accounts be set as administrator accounts, and should they be password protected?
I've had both IBUYSPY samples installed and working properly before... I'm almost ready to re-format my hard drive and start from scratch!!
Thanks!!
Curt
Hi Curt,
For reinstalling MSDE, I would suggest you go through the steps listed in
the following KB article of uninstalling the MSDE and then you can do a
fresh installation.
HOW TO: Manually Remove a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE
2000) Instance

Reinstall
practice to install the most recent MDAC before doing any
SQL Server maintenance. When you don't have the latest
MDAC, the SQL install errors you could get are really off
the wall. Also I believe the current MDAC (version 2.8, I
think) has a security patch you should install.

I did an uninstall and deleted all old databases, then did
all updates for Windows 2000 Server, tried to install SQL
Server Standard, but I'm getting a configuration failed
error. When I check the sqlstp.log the line "[Microsoft]
[ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Connection broken."
appears several times after cnfgsvr.exe starts. Ultimatly
it fails and sends a (-1) exit code. Do I have a conflict
with 1 or more Hotfixes? I'm not a SQL expert, so any
help would be appreciated.

Scott,
Thanks for your help! That did the trick. I guess one the the updates had back leveled MDAC. Odd that it didn't work anyway...oh well. Thanks again.

Registering SQL 2005 Server Evaluation
I am looking to install and configure the SQL 2005 Evaluation. Once this is installed, can it be registered to remove the evals 180 day limit?
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Andr Brisebois
Andre,
When you're ready to move off of the Evaluation Edition you will need to upgrade to a full edition of SQL Server 2005. The supported upgrades is documented here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx. Evaluation edition can be upgrade to:
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
You'll need to perform the upgrade prior to the 180-day expiration. The upgrade process must be able to start the SQL service. Once you pass the 180-day mark the service will not start. There is still a way to upgrade post 180 days but it is much more involved.
Cheers,
Dan
registering MSDE 2000 FROM SQL 2000

BUT THE MSDE IS RUNNING IN THE CLIENT MACHINE. Could any one please help me
Thanks.
Indra.Check this (http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/productinfo/features.asp) site, but in short, - Named Pipes is not supported on MSDE. You need to create an alias on your server for MSDE instance using TCP/IP protocol, and specify the alias during server registration in EM. You can also use the IP address for registration.|||Thanks, i will have a check now.|||Hi,
I setup alias with TCP/IP and try to connect with alias name as well with tcp/ip, but same error message is comming. by the way what cold be my instance, i just install msde with setup.exe from command prompt.
